🤝 Mercedes Loyalty

Lewis Hamilton is close to signing a new deal with Mercedes that will keep him in Formula 1 beyond 2023. The seven-time world champion dismissed rumors that he was in talks with Ferrari, saying he had no contact with the Italian team. He’s said he’s happy with Mercedes and wants to continue driving for them.

However, Mercedes is struggling this season to keep up with Red Bull and Ferrari. They hope to improve their performance with car upgrades in Monaco this weekend. Hamilton’s staying cool and isn’t worried about the current situation, saying the team will bounce back. If they don’t turn things around I wonder how that will factor into his decision. Read More

💰 F1 is Growing Fast

Formula 1 is quickly growing in the US. Not only is it winning over fans, but advertisers too. Many attribute the recent surge in popularity to their hit Netflix series, ‘Drive to Survive’. The races also attract many celebrities who want to get in on the action.

US-based financial partners are taking notice and have quickly become the country with the most sponsors. They’re hitching themselves to the money machine. Formula 1 isn’t just about the race, it’s a spectacle. Unlike other sports that happen over a few hours, Formula 1 is a 3-day long experience with various events attached to it. It’s festival meets Super Bowl. The host cities benefit tremendously from the action as well. Miami reported the 2022 race brought in $350 million for the city.

🇲🇨 Monaco GP

Monaco, one of the most prestigious races on the calendar, is here. The glamorous street race is always a challenge for the drivers and a spectacle for the fans. Monaco has its quirks, it’s the shortest and slowest track on the calendar, but also one of the most demanding. The drivers have to navigate tight corners, narrow streets and changing conditions, with no room for error. F1 has been racing here since 1950, making it one of the oldest races in history. It has also produced some of the most memorable moments, such as Ayrton Senna's six wins, Graham Hill's five wins, and Daniel Ricciardo's redemption in 2018.

The qualifying session is crucial, as overtaking is very difficult on this track. Some say it’s a boring race and changes need to be made to increase excitement. Last week we wrote about how this year F1 is taking over the broadcasting which hopefully increases the entertainment. Monaco is a race where strategy can make a big difference. The teams have to balance tire wear, fuel consumption, and pit stops, while also reacting to safety cars and virtual safety cars more than any other race. Read More

🏎 Haas Fine With Buying Ferrari Units

Haas F1 team is happy to stick with Ferrari as its power unit supplier even after Formula 1 introduces the new rules in 2026. The sport will have six engine manufacturers by then, but Haas boss Guenther Steiner says being a customer team has its advantages. He points out that Aston Martin, a Mercedes customer, is currently ahead of the works team in the standings.

Steiner says Haas does not need to be a works team to compete and that manufacturers can come and go in Formula 1. He says Haas will make the best out of its customer deal and focus on its future. Haas is celebrating its 150th Grand Prix this weekend in Monaco and Steiner says the team is getting stronger. Read More
